Abstract :
An experimental prototype of a Voltage Source Converter (VSC) HVDC system for large wind farm integration was built. The aim of this prototype is to physically simulate the steady-state and dynamic behavior of the VSC-HVDC system for wind farm integration. Both terminals of the VSC-HVDC employ modular multilevel converter and an asynchronous motor and asynchronous generator system was used to physically simulate the wind farms. The control strategy, modulation strategy and the capacitor voltage balancing strategy of the wind farm side MMC were studied. The control strategy for the wind-farm side converter was proposed. The characteristics of the MMC-based VSC-HVDC system for large wind farms integration were studied and analyzed using various experimental results.
