Abstract
Satellite broadcasting in the 21-GHz band is expected to transmit large-capacity signals. However, this band suffers from severe fading due to rain and so on. In this regards, we have proposed a reconfigurable antenna system to exploit the limited resources because of its ability to control radiation pattern for fading mitigation. We proposed a method to control the radiation pattern and to estimate outage due to rain using radar/raingauge-analyzed precipitation. Also we have measured the rain attenuation in the 12-GHz band in Tokyo. This paper describes a simulation of outage for satellite broadcasting configuring dynamic controlled radiation pattern by the reconfigurable antenna. Then we compared outage estimated using radar/raingauge-analyzed precipitation and outage evaluated using time series of the measured rain attenuation scaled to 21-GHz band.
