Abstract
This work introduces a cost-effective method to increase the uniformity of indoor color light emitting diode (LED) panels based on the application of simple image processing algorithms. Suppose the brightness of LED dots in the panel is controlled by the parameters such as pixel values, pixel gains and total gain. Using a commercial web camera to capture the brightness of the LED panel, the system can detect the relatively dim LED(s) and then appropriately reduce the pixel gains of the LEDs with normal brightness. This method is tested by the application to a panel composed of 3 × 15 LED modules where each module is constructed by an 8 × 8 LED array. Our results show that this simple idea can effectively increase the uniformity of the range of interest and might be used as the first-line control of panel quality.
