Abstract
We discuss the impact of possible non-zero surface current at the interface for negative index media where ε=-1 and =-1. For the interface between air (ε=1 and =1) and the NIM, the assumption of zero surface current may not always be correct and a non-zero surface current can resolve the otherwise self-contradictory boundary conditions. These new solutions for this type of NIM slab reveal that there would be no evanescent wave amplification and hence no perfect lens effect.
