Abstract :
Line-commutated converters (LCCs) are widely used in power system applications such as high voltage direct current (HVDC) systems. Dynamic average-value modeling (AVMs) of power-electronic-based systems has evolved greatly during the past decades and is now commonly used for small-signal analysis and system-level transient simulation studies. In this paper, the AVM of the inverter side of an HVDC system is developed using the parametric average modeling methodology previously established for the diode bridge rectifiers. Contrary to the previous models from the same family, the proposed model is developed using a current-source AVM formulation which is better suited for modeling inverter. Accuracy of the new AVM is demonstrated by comparing with a detailed switch-level simulation of the system for two large-signal transient studies.
