Abstract :
This paper compares the results of two different homographic techniques for 2-Dimensional measurement of physical distances. Images are taken using a digital camera attached to an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).The UAV is flown over a mock accident scene and images of the scene are captured for post flight analysis. The images are analyzed and distances between various points are calculated using two different homographic techniques: geometric triangulation and genetic estimation. Overall, this work is directed at examining the potential to use photogrammetric techniques to measure realistic accident scenes as a tool to augment and support accident scene reconstruction which typically relies on physically measuring distances in the accident scene.
