  • Abstract
Butyl-methylimidazolium based ionic liquids with two different anions are suggested as gating electrolytes in field-effect transistors. Thanks to the selection of two anions with different polarity it was possible to evaluate the effect of the ions properties such as the chemical structure and the grade of hydrophobicity on the off-current and on the field-effect mobility. Moreover the occurrence of any electrochemical doping in the organic semiconductor was evaluated in three different drain-source voltage ranges. The bio-compatibility of this class of ionic liquids is well-known and a better understanding of their behaviour could lead towards new application for electrolyte-gated biosensors.
