  • Abstract
In this paper, actuator fault detection and isolation is designed for two-area Automatic Generation Control (AGC) system. To isolate and estimate the possible actuator faults a bank of Sliding Mode Observer (SMO) is designed. Based on the designed observers, bank of residuals are defined correspondingly. The actuator faults can be isolated if only one residual goes to zero while the others do not. The faulty model with residual approaching zero identifies the faulty actuators. Also it can provide a method to estimate the faults. The actuator fault isolation method is tested on AGC, and simulation results show that it can isolate various types of actuator faults effectively.
