Abstract :
DQOBSR (Distributed Queue Optical Burst Switched Ring) is a medium access protocol for wavelength division multiplexing based optical burst switched metro ring network. It is a slotted, distributed queue access protocol with fixed bus structure and simple wavelength assignment. The protocol provides zero blocking with acceptable access delays. However, the blocking performance depends on the buffer size at the nodes, particularly at higher loads. The impact of the buffer size on the blocking probability and delay performance is presented in this paper. From the simulation results, it is observed that there exists a maximum buffer size, beyond which the performance cannot be improved by increasing the buffer size.
