Abstract :
Many automotive companies are commercializing Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) in which Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors using rare-earth magnet are employed as main traction motors. Various design efforts are invested to increase the power density of the motor as well as achieving high motor efficiency. In this work, those PM motors are compared in terms of torque density, power density, and cost etc. Moreover, the analysis results of current situation are discussed.
