Abstract :
The LNG plant in Hammerfest (HLNG) is located onshore at the island Melkøya in Norway. All wells are operated as subsea installations from the shore . The Snøhvit project was completed in 2007 and started operation in August 2007, with a constant power consumption at about 215 MW. The first years of operation revealed that the grid connection was weaker then expected, and that it would become a challenge for the power situation. The import of power from the grid was at times restricted and limited the designed and expected utilization of of the grid power supply flexibility. This paper will address how the standard existing system protection scheme (SPS) from the TSO (Statnett) have been modified and combined with the load shedding (LS) system at HLNG. This combination is called a dynamic protection system scheme (DSPS) and is an improvement for both HLNG and the TSO.
