  • Abstract
    The Global Threat Reduction Initiative (GTRI) has started in USA since 2004. The International Atomic Energy Agency and some countries welcomed the initiative which is an effort to reduce the threat of the nuclear and radiological terrorism. There are two programmes of the initiative in which the Budapest Research Reactor has joined. The first is the Reduce Enrichment for Research and Test Reactors (RERTR) which is responsible to replace the Highly Enriched Uranium (HEU) containing nuclear fuels to Low-Enriched Uranium (LEU) fuel assemblies. The second is the Russian Research Reactors Fuel Return (RRRFR). Within this programme the spent and fresh Russian-origin Highly Enriched Uranium fuel assemblies have been removed to Russia. In the present paper the activity of the Budapest Research Reactor is summarized in these programmes.
