Abstract :
High tenacity polyester development followed the advances in high tenacity nylon, and this product has been used since the 1950´s as the basic raw material for plastics and rubber reinforcement (i.e. tire cord), as well as rope-manufacturing yarn. Further improvements in tenacity and modulus are possible and a modified polyester polymer, such as PET-PEN blend or co-polymer for example, can further enhance these properties. From test observations, it is apparent that mooring rope construction can also be further optimized using innovative rope making processes in order to make stronger and yet lighter mooring ropes.
