Abstract :
Wireless sensor networks involve hundreds of small, inexpensive, resource constrained and battery powered sensor nodes. Once deployed, sensor nodes are unattainable, thus replacement of energy sources in network is not likely possible. Hence in order to improve the network lifetime, we need to enhance the energy efficiency. In this paper we propose Centralized Border Node based Cluster Balancing (CBCB) protocol, which evenly distributes the load equally among the clusters to improve network lifetime. A comparison is made between the performance of CBCB and other cluster-based approaches such as, LEACH, LEACH-C, BCDCP and PEGASIS. Simulation results indicate that the proposed CBCB protocol causes reduction in the overall energy consumption and improved network longevity.
