Abstract :
Tuned Mass Dampers dissipate vibratory energy through a set of damper and spring connecting a small mass to the main structure; they have a great effect in vibration suppression caused by low frequency loads and loads with frequencies near the structure´s fundamental frequency. Despite these advantages they have shown poor behavior due to stochastic loads with high frequencies such as earthquakes. Therefore, Active Tuned Mass Dampers are the alternatives suggested. In this approach, a benchmark structure is being analyzed, a five storey structure (Samali et al.) [3].The active vibration control is carried out by Fuzzy Logic controllers since they are one of the best active control methods. Their behavior in different mass ratios (mass of structure to mass of damper) and different locations in the structure is being investigated. El Centro earthquake is exposed to the structure as the external excitations. The main goal is comparing the last storey´s displacement and the inter-storey drifts due to the aforementioned changes.
