Abstract :
Crossrail is a new £16bn railway being built in London. It runs from Maidenhead and Heathrow in the west to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east. There will be eight new underground stations all of which interface to a greater or lesser extent with pre-existing stations. The paper describes the unique challenges and issues involved with integrating Crossrail earthing, and other electrical systems, with existing railway infrastructures, notably Network Rail (Thameslink & SE Region) and London Underground, and the approaches taken to ensure safe and reliable railways are handed over after Crossrail is commissioned.
