Abstract :
In order to ensure safety, better operation & full use of modern appliances like various types of electrical drives used for Industrial applications, a quality power must be provided. Most of the automation works uses robots, drives and various types of artificial intelligence which uses large number of switches. These loads in turn behave as non-linear loads. So they take non-sinusoidal current introducing harmonics in supply mains. Shunt Active Power Filter (APF) is used for current harmonics mitigation. In Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) based Shunt APF capacitor is used as energy source element. This paper describes various controllers used for capacitor voltage regulation, in order to ensure the compensation capability of Shunt APF. Instantaneous Reactive Power (IRP) theory is used to control operation of Shunt APF. MatLab/Simulink results are given for various types of controllers.
