Abstract :
In this paper a new hybrid excitation flux-switching motor (HEFSM) with an outer-rotor configuration is proposed for in-wheel drive EV applications. The principles of operation and performances on the initial design motor are studied. The profile of back-EMF, cogging torque, magnetic flux distribution and load analysis are evaluated. Initially, coil arrangement and zero rotor position tests are implemented to ensure the proposed motor is in proper condition. The study is conducted based on finite element analysis (FEA). The results obtained show that it has the possibility to be further optimized for use as in-wheel EV drives.
