Abstract
Although AC transmission technology occupies the majority of markets for the benefit of low costs for power delivery within a certain distance; it can no longer keep its dominant status comparing with HVDC when the delivering distance becomes longer. HVDC is in a rapidly growing stage in China due to the immense demand of long-distance transmission. This paper gives an introduction of HVDC projects in China and some important reliability indices that are adopted by the Chinese electric power reliability management center (CER) for reliability analysis of HVDC projects. The 2012 reliability data for HVDC projects provided by CER is presented as a demonstration.
