Abstract
This paper focuses on the modeling issues with online transient security assessment (TSA). The discrepancy between energy management system (EMS) network model and offline planning network model are discussed. An approach to splitting the aggregated generator representation in EMS network model and including more network details required for TSA is introduced. The proposed automatic approach reduces the workload in identifying the required network modifications and provides great flexibility to accommodate to network changes. The proposed approach is validated by benchmarking online TSA simulation results with phasor measurement unit (PMU) data for one historical system event.
