Abstract :
Given the emphasis on system reliability and power quality of medical and diagnostic modalities (equipment) and the multitude of technical challenges this presents; this paper will report the findings of a case study on the improvement in reliability and financial impact on such equipment when used with surge protective devices (SPDs). Further, the paper will outline the expected transient voltage surge environment in an electrical system with a focus on the potential sources of these surges.
