Abstract
In this paper it is presented how an active power filter can generate energy savings in a water pumping station. It is very well known that it was made a very important modernizations in terms of energy savings by using variable speed. The pumps are controlled by power converters which become a nonlinear load for the grid. In those conditions the problems of power factor cannot be managed with simple capacitor banks. An evaluation of the solutions, which seems to be the active power filter, is made in this paper by presenting the entire solution with the corresponding control technique and the energy savings realized.
