Abstract :
High-quality-factor resonators are key components in the design of high precision transducers. The current work examines various loss mechanisms to understand how to improve the quality factor through transducer geometry, electrode dimensions, and packaging. The effect of crystal width and thickness on the quality factor is evaluated through computer modeling. The results can help in the miniaturization process of the resonator. Smaller size can reduce the cost of the sensor, while improving its thermal transient response. The simulation was carried out with COMSOL Multiphysics version 4.3a.
