Abstract :
We propose a novel nonbinary low-density parity-check (NB-LDPC) coding scheme for new service overlaid wavelength-division-multiplexed passive optical network (WDM-PON). In conventional binary coding scheme, each channel is encoded/decoded independently; while in our nonbinary coding scheme, old service channel and new service channel are encoded/decoded together. Compared with independent binary coding scheme, NB-LDPC coding scheme provides better bit-error-rate performance as shown by our simulation.
