Abstract :
In this paper, we have proposed the interference analysis method which uses both an interference probability model at the physical (PHY) layer of radio frequency identification (RFID) system and the discrete-time Markov chain (DTMC) model at the IEEE 802.15.4 media access (MAC) layer. Using the proposed method, we have calculated performance degradation of IEEE 802.15.4 sensor network, namely wireless personal area network (WPAN) due to passive RFID readers at 902-928 MHz frequency bands. If 1 % performance degradation of WPAN is allowed, RFID and WPAN systems can share these frequency bands even when the number of RFID readers is equal to 50 on condition that radius of protection area is greater than 300 m.
