Abstract
The spatial-harmonic magnetron (SHM) is a tube, which utilizes a spatial harmonic of the RF field of a non π - mode (usually the π/2-mode or a neighboring one) for its operation, as opposed to the classical cavity magnetron utilizing the principal harmonic of the π-mode. In this presentation, we give an overview of the most important results towards the development of THz sources on the basis of SHMs. Characteristics and design solutions of the already developed and produced 95 GHz, 140 GHz, 210 GHz, and 225 GHz magnetrons are presented. The current status of the development of 320 GHz magnetron is discussed as well.
