Abstract :
A high gain planar antenna is proposed operating at approximately 300GHz. The design is based on a Frequency Selective Surface (FSS) placed in front of a waveguide aperture in a ground plane. The FSS consists of square apertures within a metalized SU8 layer, supported on a metalized SU8 ring, forming an air cavity with the metallic ground. The geometry has been optimized using full wave simulations (CST Microwave Studio™). The antenna performance is related to the reflection characteristics of the FSS array. An antenna of approximately 22 dBi gain at a central operating frequency of 284 GHz is obtained.
