Abstract :
HEMP has long been a concern for the military, but can also be a concern for civilian or commercial facilities. The shielding effectiveness of a building can be an important part of the facility´s HEMP hardness, and as such may need to be determined for an HEMP assessment. Here, a simple and easy shielding effectiveness approach is presented that can be used when a traditional approach is too expensive or prohibitive for other reasons. This approach addresses assessing an existing civilian/commercial facility, not one that has been constructed to be hardened, such as for a critical military system.
