Abstract :
The subject of this paper is the robust and quality-oriented design of an electromagnetic wave absorber. Taguchi´s parameter design is employed first to optimize the absorption efficiency of the wave absorber over a wide bandwidth while reducing the sensitivity of the optimized performance to a number of hard-to-control variables. However, the variation of the optimized product performance after Taguchi´s parameter design might not be within the desired target due to certain design requirements and market expectations. Therefore, a new design scheme is studied with the employment of Taguchi´s tolerance design. The results illustrate that the absorption efficiency could be further enhanced by tightening the performance variation level, so that the quality of the absorber is improved.
