  • Abstract
    In this paper the characteristics of the static self shunt excitation system for giant hydro generator are introduced. Each component is analyzed on what should be addressed in the design, including the automatic voltage regulator, the silicon-controlled rectifier (SCR) cabinet, the de-excitation control and rotor overvoltage protection circuit and the excitation transformer configured for the giant hydro generator. Finally the design calculations of the key components are given for the NARI giant hydro generator excitation system. Products based on these design principles have been used in tens of giant hydro generators.
