Abstract
This paper develops lamp-power-dependent models for high-intensity-discharge (HID) lamps from experimental results obtained by testing electronic ballast. The tested ballast circuit includes a boost power-factor-correction converter, a buck converter, and a half-bridge inverter for supplying HID lamps with low-frequency square-wave sources to avoid acoustic resonance. By controlling the power switch inside the buck converter, the output lamp current/power can be adjusted and regulated in order to determine behaviors in the HID lamps during the dimming process. In this paper, four power-dependent models of HID lamps from three commercial lamp manufacturers are sucessfully developed by testing electronic ballast with an input utility-line voltage of 220 V.
