Abstract
This paper summarizes recent work aimed at developing touch sensors for robotic medical procedures such as robotic surgery and catheter radio-frequency ablation. Robotic surgery with miniaturized incision allows targeted intervention and quicker recovery. However, surgeons are stripped of the touch sensation. As such, the safety and effectiveness of robotic surgery is diminished. The paper also provide a background overview of bioinspired sensor design and multimodal touch sensors.
