Abstract
This paper refers to two aspects on using the Virtual Reference Feedback Tuning (VRFT) method on process control engineering. The first issue concerns the extent to which the spectral model uncertainties of the process input affects the quality of the process control system resulted from the VRFT method. The second issue concerns the selection of the reference model and of the dynamic compensator order from the controller structure. An iterative procedure is proposed to address these issues, including obtaining a PID controller by using the VRFT methodology.
