Abstract
Agent-based simulation can play a fundamental role for the development of military naval vessels as it can be exploited in the early design phase for the evaluation of ship efficiency in naval tasks. In this work, first three agent-based simulation environments are analyzed in order to show their main features and limitations in supporting the evaluation of the operational effectiveness of a military vessel in a reference naval task. The considered frameworks are MANA, NetLogo and Stage. Then, starting from the features highlighted by such an analysis, a new agent-based simulation framework for the operational evaluation of military naval tasks is proposed. Such framework, denoted as Operative Evaluator, has been developed in collaboration with Orizzonte Sistemi Navali, an Italian ship design company.
