Abstract :
The paper describes an FM-CW radar sensor system designed to improve the situational awareness in helicopters especially during brownout landing. In order to obtain an instantaneous coverage of the azimuthal field of view, the technique of digital beamforming is used. Additionally, the sensors are provisioned to employ the MIMO principle by radiating waveforms with different frequencies into separate spatial directions.
