This paper discusses about the significance of FACTS devices like Controlled Shunt Reactor (CSR) in EHV network planning. A special case study analysis is presented to demonstrate the operation advantages with CSR to effectively utilize the transmission network and thereby avoiding the requirement of construction of new lines in parallel to existing transmission lines.
