Abstract :
This paper describes experience with modal estimation tools for monitoring oscillations in the ENTSO-E continental European power system. A brief description of the modal estimation tools and the wide-area monitoring system (WAM) used by Swissgrid is given. The response of the modal estimation tools is illustrated using recordings from actual events. Furthermore, main use cases for the information provided by the WAM at Swissgrid for planning and daily operation are discussed.
