Abstract :
This paper presents the design and implementation of a series resonant inverter operating at high frequency for induction heating applications. The main advantage of this work is focused in applying power electronics, particularly a series resonant inverter based on an IGBT´s full bridge and a series RLC Load matched with a high frequency coupling transformer. The series resonant inverter is designed to deliver a current load up to 120A with a one phase AC source. Due to the inherent high speed operation and high efficiency of switching converters, other advantages of the induction furnace presented in this paper are that it require less time to start melting, and require less physical space than other traditional furnaces.
