Abstract
A comb-shaped slot RFID tag antenna is presented in this paper. The antenna is investigated numerically and validated experimentally. The parametric studies are conducted to investigate the effect of the geometrical parameters on the input impedance of the antenna. The antenna prototype affixed to a copper plate achieves good impedance characteristics over both the UHF RFID band of 902 MHz to 928 MHz as well as microwave RFID band of 2.4 GHz. Moreover, the maximum reading range of the tag prototype using the proposed antenna and a microchip of ATA5590 reaches 5.2 meters and 12.6 meters, respectively.
