Abstract
This paper describes an optimum implementation technique of a locally implicit leapfrog scheme for fast simulation of inhomogeneously-meshed conductor planes. A time step size is determined to optimize the computational efficiency of the scheme with consideration for the numerical stability, accuracy, and parallelization performance. The proposed technique is applied to transient simulations of two types of power/ground planes to evaluate the adequacy. Numerical results show that our implementation can improve the efficiency of the locally implicit scheme and enables it to be much faster than a conventional SPICE-like simulator and an existing fully-explicit scheme.
