Abstract :
Recently, an environmental issue for ballast water which helps a ship maintain a balance has been discussed. To prevent ballast water from causing marine pollution, the IMO adapted the International Convention for Control and Management of Ship´s Ballast Water and Sediments. As a result, all ships must install the BWTS by 2017. There are several methods of processing ballast water. The BWTS which is discussed in this paper uses electro-chlorination and is named as HiBallast(Hyundai Intelligent Ballast). We have analyzed operations of the HiBallast and implemented control sequence of these operations in a form of function block diagram by logic configurator based on IEC61131-3. Also we have implemented the HMI which enables user to control and monitor the HiBallast. In this paper, we explain the operations and implementation of the HiBallast and the FAT(Factory Acceptance Test) for verifying performance of the BWTS.
