• 25 Years have Progressed Our Understanding of Low Power Damage in Optical Fibres • However, No Real Model Exists for Hole Formation • New Applications are Being Proposed e.g. Back Reflection • Femtosecond Laser Induced Damage may Lead to New Possibilities • With Higher Powers: Effective Damage Stoppers are needed BUT NO FIBRE IS SAFE!
