Abstract
Different from traditional cellular communication, the transmission rate will vary greatly when the train is moving in a high speed railway system. In fact, the transmission rate is primarily determined by the distance between the train and the base station. As a result, the data transmission between the base station and the tain can only be measured in term of average transmission rate. This paper investigates the influence of train speed on system performance. As shown, the average transmission rate is independent of train speed. However, the total service that the train receives from a certain base station is inversely proportional to train speed. A lower bound as well as an upper bound on the average transmission rate are also presented.
