Abstract :
This paper analyzes musical opus of different musical styles. For each musical composition the Fourier Transform is calculated and approximated by a trendline based on a power law formula. A signal classification scheme based on the frequency spectrum behavior is presented. In order to reveal hidden relationships between the musical styles the MDS technique is used. The MDS is calculated based on the slope values of the trendlines. The results reveal significant differences in the musical styles, demonstrating the feasibility of the proposed strategy and motivate further developments towards a dynamical analysis of musical sounds.
