Abstract :
Use of an electrically fat pin inserted in a 2.92 mm connector as a monopole at K/Ka-band is reported for the first time. The proposed antenna has wide bandwidth of over 36% and consistent radiation pattern both as a stand-alone unit and when mounted on a cylinder. The effects of the cylinder´s dimensions on the antenna radiation pattern are also evaluated. It is shown that the beamwidth and the direction of radiation in the E-planes strongly depend on the length and diameter of a cylindrical platform while the omnidirectionality in the H-plane is maintained regardless of platform parameters.
