Abstract :
This paper reviews single-layer and multi-layer dielectric rod antenna design for ultra-wideband (UWB) applications. Different from “polyrod” antennas used for high gain over no more than an octave bandwidth, the UWB rod designs can have many octaves of bandwidth depending on the number of layers. The rod antennas discussed here were design to provide frequency-independent performance such as constant gain level, constant pattern, and constant phase center across the operating frequency band, not just impedance bandwidth.
