Abstract :
▪ In mixed traffic a majority of 4D equipped flights is required before CDO success significantly increases. ▪ The proposed strategic arrival management has the potential of achieving around 80% CDO flights for the given scenario and assumptions. ▪ 4D NAV enabled +8% to +12% more uninterrupted CDOs in this scenario. ▪ 95% of the CDA-MP flights is confined within 4 sec of the reference 4D trajectory at any point along the descent with optimal fuel economy. ▪ Terminal area delay absorption can significantly reduce flight delays at the cost of slightly reducing CDO success (−3% for 2 min in this scenario) ▪ Small spacing buffers at the meter fix clearly increase the number of uninterrupted CDO flights with only a small increase in flight delay and without penalizing fuel consumption. A 5 sec buffer would already balance the performance of RTA and CDA-MP.
