Abstract :
This paper develops a hardware-in-loop simulation test bench for testing battery storage systems under realistic operating conditions. It consists of an actual battery interfaced with a real-time simulation model of the system in which it is embedded. The setup can also be used to assess the accuracy of mathematical battery models. The developed test-bench is used for simulation of a hybrid electric vehicle. Moreover three mathematical battery models are also developed and examined using comparative assessment of their results with those produced by the real battery-in-loop simulator.
