Abstract :
10-Gb/s Si Mach-Zehnder modulator is packaged in module and its bit-error-rate performance is characterized in 100-km optical-fiber transmission. Fiber coupling is realized using microlenses with 2-dB coupling loss per facet and 32-dB return loss. 10-9 bit error rate is achieved at 17-dB optical signal-to-noise ratio in 100-km optical-fiber transmission.
