Abstract :
In a multicarrier system with transmission over multiple sub-channels (OFDM) or multiple antennas (MIMO) power allocation is usually done uniformly. However, if channel state information is known, then with effective power allocation significant improvement in system performances can be achieved. Transmit power allocation may improve system performance in terms of overall capacity increase or bit error rate decrease. To enable easier overview of performance improvement that can be achieved with power allocation techniques, in this paper a brief overview and systematization of methods for power allocation is given.
